Thanks for looking. Vintage Hohner Club accordion Morino model. I have had this accordion about 8 years. When I first got it.

I sent it right into a shop for a going through and fixing or adjusting what it needed. I played it for awhile but its just to heavy for me, being more used to a concertina.

So here it is. The Hohner Morino Club accordion. There are then 10 switch buttons for the reeds and a master switch behind the keyboard.

On the bass side there are 12 buttons and on the bottom is a reed switch and an air button. The feet are little balls and one is missing.

The body is in excellent condition and so are the bellows. In the center of the grill is a small turn button. This locks and unlocks the bellows.

The accordion does need some attention internally. A couple There is nothing sloppy or sluggish this is a lightly used machine.

This sounds fantastic and has been in my private collection for several years. It has been tuned quite dry and is very bright sounding. Please watch the video in the link below.

All reeds were removed. It is in very nice condition overall. The purple pearloid casework is in great shape. The original bellows are tight. This instrument is probably 60 years old but looks like 5.

It still has the original bellows and bass straps and they look good. It has 25 treble buttons 2. The low buttons on each row of the treble side are the standard low notes.

It has steel reeds. The original leather valves have all been replaced with modern multilayer film style one way valves All bass.

Chord and treble pallets have been re-padded to reduce the clacking as buttons are released. As mentioned earlier. This has been tuned pretty dry.

The basses and chords are also tuned dry. One modification I made was to change the gleighton note back to a normal note on the F row on the draw.

As the photo shows. The metal grill is in nice shape with no dents and the original grill screen is intact. The keyboard is intact with no cracks or missing pieces.

This is my favorite style Hohner keyboard where there is a nice concave thumb groove on the edge of the keyboard.

It also has the button travel limited so the buttons don't disappear down into the hole if pressed fully. It has shoulder strap brackets installed.

I will include a simple leather strap. Unlike most of the older Hohner boxes purchased on ebay. This is ready to play without further adjustment required.

I repair and tune button accordions and have specialized in older Hohner button boxes. You can see some of the other Hohner accordions being repaired in the last picture.

Plays beautifully! Mainly Steirische but click on Club bottom left and there they are. Whilst the Club system and the accordion clubs themselves are now defunct and long gone.

There are a number of reasons why these are particularly interesting starter boxes. This is something we regularly do for people.

Having said this if you learn on a Club you can play everything that you can on a non Club. Plus you get some very interesting options as your playing progresses.

In semitone-apart systems, moving in from the outside the keyboard, each row is pitched a semitone higher than its neighbour.

This configuration makes all the notes of the chromatic scale available. As a result, such instruments could strictly be termed chromatic rather than diatonic instruments.

In practice, however, the restrictions imposed by the single action and layout of the keyboard lead most players to keep to a fairly restricted range of keys albeit a wider range than is practical on most fourth-apart systems.

Irish-American musicians of the midth century used this system with the position of the rows reversed, i.

Traditionally, one-row instruments have two or four buttons on the bass side, two-row instruments have eight, and three-row instruments twelve.

Some modern players, particularly in France, are driving a trend towards instruments with more complex bass systems, with as many as 16 or even 18 buttons.

Sometimes these more elaborate systems will diverge from the single-action principle, and may feature bass notes only instead of bass-chord pairs of buttons.

Several distinct variations of the DBA have developed in different regions of the world. These include the Russian garmon , the Steirische Harmonika [notes 1] or Slovenian -style accordion that is popular in Alpine regions of Europe, the Swiss Schwyzerörgeli and the Basque trikitixa ; the last two combine single- and double-action bisonoric and unisonoric features.

A common type of Italian organetto has a single melody row augmented with a very short half-row of between two and four buttons often smaller in diameter than those on the main row providing reversals only.

DBAs have two main advantages when compared with chromatic accordions such as piano accordions and chromatic button accordions: 1 smaller size and lighter weight, 2 and the rhythmic effects inherent in the single "push-pull" action.

The size and weight difference results from the nature of accordion reeds, which produce sound when air is moved through them in one direction only.

In other words, for any key or button, two reeds are necessary: one to sound on the press, and one to sound on the draw. Because a double-action instrument sounds the same note on both press and draw, it needs two reeds for any given note in its range, where a single-action instrument—which sounds a different note on press and draw—requires only one.

Any double-action instrument thus requires roughly twice as many reeds as an equivalent single-action instrument, making it larger and considerably heavier.

Another way to understand this difference is to consider the fact that a double-action instrument generally requires twice as many keys or buttons to produce a range of notes as a single-action instrument: for example, a piano accordion requires 8 keys 16 reeds to sound a diatonic scale from C to C', where a DBA pitched in C requires 4 buttons 8 reeds to produce the same notes.

The Ouverture is a very refined four or five voice machine with the depth of sound normally found in a high end piano accordion.

These may have fallen out of favour with some but some of them are of a quality that rivals anything produced today. This was not one of the club accordions but deserves a mention as this is where the Modell 1 came from.

Originally a Koch design, Hohner bought the Koch company and the combination of the Koch two row with the Hohner two row of the time produced one of the most enduring designs which is still made in China today.

The earliest of the modern Hohner club accordions. These are more like a nice 2 row with a gleighton and make the best conversions.

Whilst there are minor differences in bass button type, and some minor variations in reed types the Erika and Modell 2 are all but identical and a direct evolution of the Modell 1.

They come in many different guises. The three voice big brother of the Erika these were available in wood or perloid finish. This body is the predecessor of many of the two and three voice Club and 3 row accordions of the forties and fifties These were MMM and less common Lmm with a register for the low.

A big old sound. An in between the Erika and the Modell Victoria, a two voice with 4 Accidentals as per Erika layout but with a grille style like the Victoria, plain casein buttons this has the Erika sound.

These are a 2 voice box but now have 7 accidental buttons like the Modell 3. This model has mother of pearl buttons and a snazzy mechanism which opens the inner row pallets in a parallel fashion.

There was an unusual 3 voice version of these called the Sonora. These are pretty loud with a full rich 4 octave bass.

The Club system developed by Hohner is a well-established example of this approach. Using the accidentals, and with the added modification of a Gleichton (unisonoric second-octave tonic in the centre of the middle row), this system allows players to obtain a fully chromatic scale – albeit in one direction only (draw). Hohner Victoria Bb/Eb (antique) 27 keys, 2 treble reeds Photo courtesy Wendy Morrison; Weltmeister Club 33 keys, 3 treble reeds. Hohner did not invent the Club layout and other makers produced Clubs as far back as the early 20s but Hohner ran with the concept and produced tens of thousands of accordions in this format. Instrumental in the establishment of the club craze they produced some fantastic boxes through the mid twentieth century. Hohner Club 3M. Hohner Club Accordion Not really a category of it’s own the Club accordion IS a two row diatonic button accordion. Some minor differences to it’s keyboard layout differentiate it.
